The Big Five traits measures human behavior and personality traits. The Big Five traits have the acronym OCEAN; Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism. The Big Five traits provide a description of the qualities in social behavior and the differences in people.

Openness to experience

I am original in many aspects; when a person knows me for a long time he or she is usually impressed because I can fit into most situations. I always say, “There is no one else like me!” and they agree. However, I am conventional with my furnishings in my home. I am about equal in both imaginative and down to earth qualities. I try to stay grounded but think outside the box. That’s what makes me so original and creative! I am creative when solving problems and dealing with situations. I have many interests and do not limit myself to any one particular item or subject. I am a very complex person but have simple rules that I follow and expect others around me follow. I am curious about most things in life especially when it involves people and behavior.

Conscientiousness

I am conscientious in all that I do. I am aware how my words and actions affect others. I am careful in my actions and when making decisions. Others can rely on me to keep my word because I am the reliable person in my family. I am fairly well-organized in my life. I have my laptop for schoolwork and the calendar is synced to my husband’s cell phone and my cell phone so our schedules do not overlap. I am self-disciplined and persevere in everything I take on. I do not give up easily and without defeat.

Extroversion

I am a very sociable person. I love going out and meeting new people. I will even talk to strangers when standing in line. I am fun loving and affectionate towards others. When seeing friends or family, I often give hugs and am generally warm and inviting. I am friendly and talkative even with strangers. I am not one to ignore when someone is in need and always willing to lend a helping hand.

Agreeableness

I am often good natured but when I am stressed I can become irritable. Soft hearted and courteous, I am understanding of most situations. I am a forgiving person although it may take me some time depending on how hurt I feel. I am sympathetic to others’ feelings. I am more compromising than agreeable or disagreeable. I make compromises when needed and also disagree when I feel strongly about something.

Neuroticism

I am generally a calm person but worry when I become overly stressed. I am at ease in most situations, rarely nervous unless I desire something greatly and don’t want to lose it, such as a job interview. I can be high-strung at times and I believe this occurs because of the stress in my life. I used to be secure in most things in life but within the last few years I have become more insecure about the future. I am satisfied with myself (self-satisfied), knowing that I create what I desire in life. I know I always have a choice in whatever I chose. I believe I am equally vulnerable and hardy; some things in life do not affect me but there are some times when everything seems to have an effect on me.
